With a heritage of horse trainers behind her, Kate Halle of Corvallis, Oregon knows her equines. Her father and grandfather were career trainers and so it’s no surprise that Kate started training and showing horses at twelve years of age. She hasn’t looked back since and offers a full range of seasoned services from her leased barn near Corvallis.
While her specialty is Arabian horses, Kate works with most any breed including Tennessee Walkers, Paints, Quarter Horses and Andalusians, to name a few. She offers animal and people training, show coaching and clipping, trail rides, marketing services and in her words “most anything that makes money concerning horses”.
Her training course for babies and broke horses is $660 per month. Adding a rider for training is $40 for a private lesson, $30 each for a two-person group. Kate offers a discounted package rate of $140 for four booked private lessons. She clips for $30 per hour or $125 for a full body clip. Mileage charges are added after 15 miles from her home. Her show coaching package is $300 for a complete bath, clip, grooming and coaching of rider for a show or she will ride the horse for the same price.
On the pleasure side of the business, Kate hosts trail rides at Newport on the beach, Bald Hills trail system and Peavy Arboretum near Corvallis. She charges $100 for the beach trips and $40 for the local venues, a bit more if you use her mellow lesson horses.
When asked what is the primary focus of her business Kate replied “It’s like sending your horse to college instead of just to a trainer”. By this she means that her goal is to develop a good foundation in a horse in order to build on that for better learning capabilities and a minimal tension or resistance to future training. Kate also trains the rider in this style which could be termed a show horse mentality whereby the training promotes good form, strong animal back muscles and extended equine longevity as a result.
